Since 1973, the Legal Action Center has fought discrimination against people with arrest or conviction records, substance use disorders, and HIV or AIDS, working to shrink the reach and harm of the criminal legal system and to build health equity. It is the only nonprofit law and policy organization in the country dedicated solely to this mission.
LAC combines free direct legal services, impact litigation, policy advocacy, education and training, and coalition-building. Its attorneys help people correct RAP sheet errors, seal records, and apply for Certificates of Relief or Good Conduct, opening doors to the jobs, homes, and health care people need to thrive, so that no one is held back by discrimination.
