Elizabeth Kelley is a criminal defense lawyer with a nationwide practice focused on representing people with mental disabilities. As she puts it, she has dedicated her life to the belief that people with mental disabilities do not belong in the criminal justice system and that they need treatment, not jail or prison.
Her practice represents individuals facing charges who live with conditions including autism spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, dementia, schizophrenia, traumatic brain injury, PTSD, and intellectual disabilities. She arranges expert evaluations, provides consultation and co-counsel, and works closely with mental health professionals and local counsel to ensure treatment and dignity take precedence over incarceration.
