At times in our journeys when many of us have limited control over many of our external situations, there are still things we can control, namely: our attitudes, our bodies and our ability to help others. Elia will guide us through a wellness session of mind/ body /spirit integration, serenity and acceptance. She will also provide us some simple takeaways we can use every day to best ensure our health, happiness and stamina for the trials ahead.

Elia Johnson is a Licensed Clinical Social Work and Licensed Master Social Worker. She obtained her Master of Science in Social Work degree in 2014 with a concentration in public policy and a minor in law from Columbia University School of Social Worker.

Elia has over ten years of experience working as a forensic social worker including as the Client Services Director at the Office of the Appellate Defender and the Director of Social Work at Appellate Advocates. She also holds a post-master’s certificate in Trauma-Informed Clinical Care from New York University.

Elia uses a trauma-informed approach in working with individuals who are currently incarcerated in New York State or have recently been released.

Additionally, looking to explore alternative modes of wellness, Elia obtained her 300-hour yoga teachers’ certificate in 2017 and her advanced 500-hour yoga teacher’s certificate in 2020. She has taught classes at Laughing Lotus NYC and Prospect Heights Yoga (now both closed). She has also done meditation and Buddhism workshops with renowned teachers Jack Kornfield, Mark Epstein, Ally Bogard, and Robert Thurman.
